This week, students were placed back into their Natural Disaster groups, and rounded out our How The World Works unit, by creating Public Service Announcements. Students worked all week creating story boards and writing scripts that would reflect all the knowledge they gained throughout this unit. Students PSA's focused on sharing the warning signs, examples of the past, and ways to be prepared for their particular natural disaster. With the help of an iPad and Green Screen technology, students filmed their group videos, and next Wednesday we will have a viewing party in the Library with all three 4th grade classes.
Math
This week, students completed their last inquiry story problem to review multiplication and division before we move on to our next unit. Students were presented with a problem that their teachers faced, in relation to an upcoming field trip. Students used multiple strategies to solve multi-step problems that had them using their multiplication and division skill sets.
Next week, we will be moving on to EGNY's module 5, which will focus on fractions. We will first take a look at fraction equivalences, and then move on to comparing fractions.
Next week’s math: Fractions pre-test, EGNY Module 5 Lessons 1-2
Next week’s vocabulary test: Latin and Greek Root Words
Auction Art
This week, students spent two days creating tile art with the guidance and expertise of David Webb (Asa's Dad). The purpose of this art project was to paint a word and symbol that represented this years theme of choosing kindness. Students had fun creating their unique tiles, and soon all of their hard work will be mounted together to make a one of a kind piece that will be auctioned off at this years West TV fundraising event. The auction will take place on the evening of March 9th, 2019 and If you would like to attend, tickets can be found here.
Paved Path Project
Last year the West TV staff and parents came together through surveys and focus groups and determined overwhelmingly that funding our Paved Path Project was a community priority! This enthusiastic input shaped our goal of transforming our often-soggy bark chip path into a six-foot-wide paved path that is accessible to ALL students and community members. We need your support to make this goal a reality! Please purchase a pair of West TV spirit socks for $14.00 here.
