Reading
This week, students wrapped up their first reading unit of study by completing a post assessment on interpreting characters. Students read a story about a boy named Leo, and his pet turtle, then answered 4 questions in relation to how the characters developed throughout the story. In order to show proficiency on this assessment, Mrs. Hauser will be looking to make sure students cite evidence from the text to support their answers.
Writing
This week, students completed the final stage of the writing process by typing their narrative stories. Each student has been diligently working on brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, and finally now publishing their papers, and we are excited to share them with one another.
Math
This week, students continued their understanding of multiplication by working with area models to multiply by 10, 100, and 1,000.
Inquiry
This week, students continued their investigative work towards "Where We Are in Place and Time" by learning about different Migrations throughout the 1800s and 1900s. Students looked at a timeline of Migrations throughout history, and were introduced to The Trail of Tears, The Gold Rush, Ellis Island, Angel Island, The Great Migration, The Dust Bowl, Japanese Internment, and Vietnamese Boat People. At the end of the week, Students picked three Migrations that they would be interested in researching in the future.
