Writing
This week students learned the difference between revising and editing and took a look at their first writing rubric to help guide their thinking. Next week, they will continue working on their realistic fiction stories and look at their drafts through different lenses to make sure they have included all the elements they need to write an attention grabbing story. Our hope is that students will finish these papers just in time for parent/teacher conferences in order to be celebrated by many.
Math
This week, students continued using their knowledge of place value and the standard algorithm to answer addition and subtraction problems up to the hundred thousands. We focused on the importance of carrying in addition and borrowing in subtraction, and students used Seesaw to show their understanding. If you haven't yet, please make sure to check your students work regularly so you can see how they are doing in class.
Inquiry
This week, students began their brand new inquiry unit based on How We Express Ourselves. The central idea is that people innovate using creativity and knowledge of energy, and it lends itself nicely to the first few days in which students explored the M.E.L.T.S. energy acronym which stands for mechanical, electrical, light, thermal, and sound. Next week, students will begin exploring each type of energy through class readings and experiments which will ultimately lead to our 3rd annual, end of unit Innovation Fair.
West TV Move
Although we have enjoyed our time at Timberland, we are grateful to announce that our move back to West TV is scheduled for November 1st. This means that students should return to West TV on November 4th. ACMA has been so accommodating and we have had such wonderful support from students and families, but we are excited to finally head home after a long leave. Should you have any questions regarding the move, please feel free to reach out to Principal Valentine or Chief Facilities Officer, Josh Gamez both can be contacted through district email.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Fall conferences will be held on the evening of November 6th and all day November 7th. For your convenience, we will be signing up for parent/teacher conferences through a website called PTCfast. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I look forward to chatting with each and every one of you!
