January 4-5, 2018
Goal Setting
This week, students spent a majority of their time reflecting on their experiences in 4th grade thus far, and focusing on what improvements they would like to work on in the future. After taking a math assessment to review both multiplication and division, and asking themselves what they could work on as readers, students set SMART goals. The class learned that a SMART goal must be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. Each student set a class, social, academic, family, and "choice" goal, so be sure to ask your child how you can help them achieve their goals, and be successful in 2018.
Inquiry
This week, students were introduced to our new unit of inquiry which falls under the PYP theme of How We Express Ourselves. This unit will focus on how people innovate using creativity and knowledge of energy. Students will learn about the transfer and conversion of energy, how design is used to solve problems, and finally ways innovation expresses creativity. During their first two days of exploration, student participated in a provocation using the card game Mockups, and gained insightful background knowledge by watching a video on energy by Bill Nye the Science Guy.
Auction Basket Requests
As you are likely aware, the WTV school auction is coming up on March 3, 2018. Each class has been asked to provide a basket to be raffled off at the auction. Our class’ theme is Camping. We have a few items, such as roasting sticks, for the basket, but we need quite a few more. If it is possible for your family to either choose an item off of the list OR make a small donation ($10 or so) to put toward an REI gift card, that would be great. Donations can be dropped off in the office my January 31, 2018. PLEASE label them with our class name. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact either Lori (Carson’s mom) at [email protected] or Jenny (Lucia’s mom) at [email protected]. If you could email us to let us know what you plan to donate, that would be extremely helpful
