December 18-20, 2017
Reading
This week, students finished reading any informational books they had on their Migrations, as well as continued reading their historical fiction novels with their book clubs. At the end of the week, Mrs. Hauser celebrated the upcoming Holiday's by reading the class one of her favorite books, The Polar Express. *Don't forget- they're may not be a reading log over Winter break, but that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy a good book!
Math
This week, students continued working on their new division skills by solving story problems that use a place value chart and the standard algorithm. As we keep working, It's important that students don't forget how to multiply, so we've been checking our division answers by multiplying the quotient and the divisor, and adding a remainder if their is one, to make sure our work is complete. As they say, practice makes perfect!
Inquiry/Writing
This week, students started and finished writing their Migration papers. With the help of all their research notes and a rough outline, students created Google docs in which they focused on an introduction, 3 subtopics, and a conclusion, creating a 5 paragraph paper for most. All their hard work finally payed off, and each student was able to publish their writing piece before Winter Break.
Holiday Celebrations
This week, students had a great time celebrating the upcoming holiday's by spending time with their buddies, and by having a class party! Students participated in creating ornaments, cutting snowflakes, folding origami, writing mad libs, taking silly pictures with photo booth props, and making yummy treats. We'd all like to send a special thank you to Lori, our classroom party coordinator, and all the wonderful parent volunteers who helped make our last day of school (before break) so special.
