Writing/Inquiry
This week, students have been hard at work collecting research, and drafting their Migration papers. Each student has been given the option of choosing their own migration story, and by the end of next week, we will have a large variety of informational essays ranging from the trail of tears, gold rush, ellis island, the dust bowl, and Japanese interment camps. Our expertise for these papers will focus on the before, during, and after subtopics of each migration story, so be sure to ask your child how things are going. Papers are due next Friday, May 10th.
Math
This week, student’s began working on module 4, which focuses on Geometry. We started the week by learning about parallel and perpendicular lines, as well as symmetry, and then quickly moved on to identifying lines and angles, then classifying shapes by measuring with a protractor. Students spent some time working with different triangles, and can now tell you the difference between acute, obtuse, and right angles.
Next week’s math: Module 4- Geometry: Lessons 10-16
Next week’s vocabulary test: Geometry
State Testing
This coming Tuesday officially marks the first day of OSAS testing for our students, and I am so excited to begin this journey with them. We have been working hard all year long, and I know each student's efforts will be seen through their knowledge and perseverance! Above all else, it is so important that parents support their children at home by checking in, encouraging, and preparing them to be successful. Being well rested, and establishing healthy eating habits are just some of the many tips you can help your child with. PBS has written an article giving other important test taking advice, should you choose to check it out. Last, but certainly not least, here is a tentative schedule of our remaining testing dates and times to keep you better informed... as always, should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

Day of Action
As you have heard, May 8 will be a non-student day for Beaverton students. This is due to the desire of many teachers throughout the state, myself included, to participate in a "Day of Action" designed to advocate for adequate and stable funding after decades of disinvestment in K-12 education. It is important that our elected representatives hear our voices and fund our schools. For the first time in decades, we have a real opportunity to fund the schools our students deserve. While I will not be with your students on that day, I will be advocating on their behalf. You are welcome to join me, per the schedule below.
8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Meet WTV teachers at The Little Store (8998 SW Leahy Rd) to write letters, learn about our state and district budget situation and make signs for the downtown rally/march OR Meet teachers at sign waving during morning commute at Walker Road and SW Cedar Hills Blvd (limited parking available at Cedar Park MS).
10:15am
Meet at Sunset TC MAX Station to take the 10:26am MAX to the Yamhill District Max Station
11:00am
Meet at Salmon Fountains (Salmon Street Springs on Google Maps) to walk to waterfront park together
