Reading
This week, students worked towards finishing their last unit of study, which focused on reading intensely to grow ideas about characters. After finishing our read aloud Tiger Rising, students gathered evidence from the text to support a greater understanding of what the books theme was.
Writing
This week, students were all given a brand new dictionary provided by the Beaverton Rotary Club! This gift came at the perfect time, as students were right in the middle of the editing stage of their narrative papers. Students were also introduced to google docs, and as they finished editing their stories, they began typing them using their Chromebooks.
Math
This week, students were introduced to our new module, which focuses on Multiplication and Division. Students reviewed the concepts of area and perimeter, and spent time solving story problems in which they multiplied single digit numbers in order to find the length and width of different quadrilaterals.
Inquiry
This week, students continued their investigative work on Westward Expansion by exploring the Oregon Trail, they looked at a map and made wonderings, and then got to experience what it was like to be a pioneer by playing the Oregon Trail Video Game. On Tuesday, students participated in a photo sort of many different Migrations throughout History, and were introduced to our new vocabulary terms for the week. We also focused on defining multiple push and pull factors of Migration, and students made a T chart dividing the terms into categories.
