Writing
This week, students submitted their last informational papers of the school year. Each student focused on a migration story of their choosing and wrote a 5 paragraph paper including an introduction and conclusion, as well as three body paragraphs that focused on the subtopics of before, during, and after their migrations. In the coming weeks, we will celebrate these papers and then give students the opportunity to get started on their final choice piece of writing for the school year.
Inquiry
This week, students were introduced to our last and final PYP inquiry unit which focused on sharing the planet. During this unit we will focus on learning about the rights and responsibilities we have, and the struggle we face to share finite resources with other people and with other living things. We will also look at communities and the relationships within and between them, as well as access to equal opportunities, and peace and conflict resolution. Our central idea targets how Natural resources have a structure and function within a community, and our three lines of inquiry are How watersheds work, Ways of maintaining balance, and Community's effects on environment..
Math
This week, student’s continued working on module 4, which focuses on Geometry. Students used their knowledge of measuring angles and now combined it with their understanding of length to identify if triangles fell under the classification of right, acute, and obtuse, as well as equilateral, scalene, or isosceles. Students also spent some time identifying shapes and were able to determine the similarities and differences within multiple quadrilaterals. Next week, students will learn all about measurement by focusing on the metric system, and then eventually touch on customary units.
Next week’s math: Module 2- Metric Measurement: Lessons 1-5
Next week’s vocabulary test: Geometry 2
State Testing
This coming Tuesday officially marks the second week of OSAS testing for our students, and I am still so excited to continue this journey with them. They have been working hard all year long, and I know each student's efforts will be seen through their knowledge and perseverance! Above all else, it is so important that parents support their children at home by checking in, encouraging, and preparing them to be successful. Being well rested, and establishing healthy eating habits are just some of the many tips you can help your child with. PBS has written an article giving other important test taking advice, should you choose to check it out. Last, but certainly not least, here is a tentative schedule of our remaining testing dates and times to keep you better informed... as always, should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
