Homework
Current research on homework suggests that it should foster a positive attitude toward school, teach students to be more responsible (unloading backpack’s each night and giving notes to teacher’s in the morning), and teach students that learning takes place at home, as well as in the classroom. Our homework this year (along with all third grade students) will consist of a weekly packet, given to students every Friday, and returned the following Thursday. Another important part of your child’s homework is to have them read 20-30 minutes each night, so please take the time to ensure this happens. Specials Each day we will have Music, P.E., Technology, Library, or Counseling from 10:25-11:10. Your third grader will learn his or her schedule very quickly, but it doesn’t hurt to help remind them to wear appropriate shoes, or return their library books on the given day. Recess We have recess 2x a day/everyday rain or shine! Please be sure your child dresses for the appropriate weather. Snack and Water Bottles We will have an afternoon snack every day. Please pack something healthy and easy to eat. Also, if your child likes to drink a lot of water, I encourage that they pack a water bottle as well; we also have a drinking fountain available in the classroom. Please refrain from packing juice or soda; this may be consumed during lunchtime. Volunteers You are the absolute best! I am so appreciative for those of you that signed up to help out during last weeks Meet and Treat. There is always room for more volunteers however. All Beaverton volunteers must complete a background check, and the West TV volunteer orientation. If you have already completed both, I will be contacting you soon, as well as providing more information during Back to School Night. Dismissal Please let me know each day, in writing, if there is a change in your child’s school dismissal. It is sometimes difficult for me to check email during the day, so try to send communications before lunch and always send another copy to Mrs. Boos in the front office as well. Her email is [email protected]. Thank you for your help! It is very important for me to know how your child is doing in class. Is she having a great time? Is he stressed out? Did she say something hilarious and you want to share? Please send me an email and let me know! I will be spending a lot of time with your child, so no comment or question is too big or too small! |
