Would you like to be a Mystery Reader in our Classroom?
Mystery Readers come into the classroom to read a book to the class. Before you arrive I provide the class with clues about you, so if you volunteer to be a Mystery Reader you cannot tell anyone…Nope, not even your own child! If you are interested in being a Mystery Reader please email me. I will contact you to schedule a date and time. I can also help you choose a book to read to the class if you’d like, otherwise the choice is all yours! This is such a special treat for our classroom! We hope you’ll play along! [email protected] *Please note that ALL Mystery Readers must pass the district background check in order, which you can find available here! https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/depts/CCI/volunteer-engage Dear Parents,
Sometimes the right book is all it takes to nurture a child’s love of reading! Every few months I will send home flyers that are full of just-right, affordable, high interest books for 4th grade readers. With each purchase, our class earns points toward new books for our classroom library, so it’s a win-win! Orders may be placed online. Happy Reading! scholastic.com/readingclub Ordering Online: Class Code: PG9RF Are you looking to help volunteer inside or outside the classroom? Look know further because here is your chance, please email me with your interests and availability, and I will put together a schedule soon!

Special Needs Please keep me informed of any special needs of your child so that I can better support the academic success of your student. For example: health needs, beliefs, values, traditions, family dynamics, and/or other academic needs. The more we have a shared understanding of your child’s needs, the better we can collaborate to promote student achievement. To allow for a smooth day, it is best for parents/guardians to discuss any concerns after school. If you have any questions, I can easily be reached via email. I can also receive calls after school between 3:05-4:00. Please do not hesitate to contact me about any questions or concerns you feel I need to know. Classroom Management Children are energetic and enthusiastic learners! To provide the best type of learning environment and to maintain their enthusiasm, children need to understand what appropriate behavior is—what it looks like and sounds like. Our three basic classroom and schoolwide rules are: Be safe Be respectful Be responsible I use several methods to encourage “right behavior”. Each day, students work to earn privileges such as class jobs, flexible seating, and VIP student. This teaches kids to participate cooperatively and to focus on positive behavior. As a PBIS school, I use shining stars to highlight students individually. We also work together as a class to earn wooden nickels from other staff and community members to earn extra privileges. I look forward to a great year with your child here at West TV! -Mrs. Hauser Homework
Current research on homework suggests that it should foster a positive attitude toward school, teach students to be more responsible (unloading backpack’s each night and giving notes to teacher’s in the morning), and teach students that learning takes place at home, as well as in the classroom. Our homework this year (along with all third grade students) will consist of a weekly packet, given to students every Friday, and returned the following Thursday. Another important part of your child’s homework is to have them read 20-30 minutes each night, so please take the time to ensure this happens. Specials Each day we will have Music, P.E., Technology, Library, or Counseling from 10:25-11:10. Your third grader will learn his or her schedule very quickly, but it doesn’t hurt to help remind them to wear appropriate shoes, or return their library books on the given day. Recess We have recess 2x a day/everyday rain or shine! Please be sure your child dresses for the appropriate weather. Snack and Water Bottles We will have an afternoon snack every day. Please pack something healthy and easy to eat. Also, if your child likes to drink a lot of water, I encourage that they pack a water bottle as well; we also have a drinking fountain available in the classroom. Please refrain from packing juice or soda; this may be consumed during lunchtime. Volunteers You are the absolute best! I am so appreciative for those of you that signed up to help out during last weeks Meet and Treat. There is always room for more volunteers however. All Beaverton volunteers must complete a background check, and the West TV volunteer orientation. If you have already completed both, I will be contacting you soon, as well as providing more information during Back to School Night. Dismissal Please let me know each day, in writing, if there is a change in your child’s school dismissal. It is sometimes difficult for me to check email during the day, so try to send communications before lunch and always send another copy to Mrs. Boos in the front office as well. Her email is [email protected]. Thank you for your help! It is very important for me to know how your child is doing in class. Is she having a great time? Is he stressed out? Did she say something hilarious and you want to share? Please send me an email and let me know! I will be spending a lot of time with your child, so no comment or question is too big or too small! |
