Math
This week, students continued to work on their knowledge of multiplication by solving multi-step story problems using area model, partial product and the standard algorithm. On Friday, students took their Mid-Module Assessment, which will be reviewed next week and sent home before the long Thanksgiving weekend. When we return, students will continue working on any multiplication misconceptions, as well as diving deep into division.
Inquiry
This week, students wrapped up their understandings of Energy by listening to the picture book "Clink" by Kelly DIPucchio, and identifying the 5 different types of energy (Mechanical, Electrical, Light, Thermal, Sound) found in the robots. They also logged onto Scratch for the very first time, and sat through an interactive coding lesson taught by Ms. Bailey, our PYP Coordinator. After Thanksgiving break, students will work on their Innovation fair projects that will be presented on November 30th from 2:15-2:30pm, all families are invited to participate.
Other Highlights of the week include:
-A Math talk presentation provided by a district TOSA
-Creative Writing time on Wednesday
-Continent Club
-Art Literacy featuring African Textiles
-A guidance lesson from our school counselor Mrs. Daniel-Hoffman
Next week’s math: Dreambox & Reviewing the Mid-Module Assessment
Next week’s vocabulary test: No vocabulary due to the long holiday weekend
Wonder
Next Tuesday, November 20th, all three 4th grade classes will be watching the movie Wonder. This year our school theme is choose kind, and as apart of our Who We Are unit, the class read the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. In celebration of finishing the story, students will be comparing the similarities and differences between the book and the movie. We ask for your help in making this fun event possible by sending in your child's permission slip by Monday, November 19th. Should you have any questions about the PG rating of the movie, please do not hesitate to reach out!
