Intel Visit
This week, students enjoyed a guest presentation from Sarah Moyle, a visual storyteller from Intel. During her talk, Sarah taught us the importance behind expressing ourselves, and that while although not everyone is an artist, they can still share their creativity. Students learned about sketch noting, storyboarding, and brainstorming, and how that can be used to tell a story. On Tuesday, students picked one form of energy and used their new found drawing skills to share what they have learned in this unit thus far.
Technology
This week, students began exploring technology for the purpose of their upcoming innovation fair. As we continue to focus on our inquiry central idea, (people innovate using creativity and knowledge of energy) students had fun working with Scratch, Micro:bits, and Makey-Makey's. Next week, students will pick one form of technology to represent their understanding of our How We Express Ourselves unit.
Math
This week, students were sent home with their Mid-Module Assessments. We went over our tests in class, and students even took part in self grading them. If you or your child have any questions regarding their scores, please don't hesitate to reach out. I was very impressed with how well everyone did. After the long thanksgiving break, we will begin working on division.
Next week’s math: Lesson 15, 16/17, 19, 20/21, 22
Next week’s vocabulary test: No vocabulary due to the long holiday weekend
Wonder
This week, students had a WONDER-ful opportunity to watch the motion picture Wonder. A big thank you to everyone who signed their child's permission slip, allowing this to happen. We had a great time comparing and contrasting the book vs. the movie and finding multiple similarities and differences between the two. Everyone agreed, the book was much better than the movie, but we had fun doing both!
